Miss Genevieve just got back from vacation. Plans to spend the entire weekend (Friday through Tuesday) at Catherine & Brian's with Aunt Donna were scrapped. We were surprised by a 7:30 am phone call on Saturday from Donna saying Blake had just called and invited them down for the night.
We quickly got Gen ready for her 8:30 am pick up. At 8:10 she was running around the living room with her backpack on ready for the car. We wanted to prepare her for leaving, but also not make her wait too long for Donna.
Donna, Catherine, Brian, Blake and Gen went to Box Car Days in Tracy, MN on Saturday. (Uncle Brian and his sisters graduated from Tracy High School.) Donna said they went into Tracy for a picnic from Subway. Aunt Donna knew Gen well enough not to waste money buying food for Gen. She made Gen a jelly sandwich before leaving Catherine's.
Blake and Gen played at the park and went on pony rides. Donna has some pics that will have to get added another day.
This morning (Sunday) they went to the "neighbor's" (Brian's parent's) to pick up apples off the ground for the pigs. I guess this was the only time they ran into some listening problems with Gen. She wanted to eat the bruised apples off the ground. Uncle Brian picked her a good apple, but it got dirty when she tripped on the way to feed the apples to the pigs. They had Gen throw the dirty apple to the pigs and Donna said she hit a little pig on the back with it.
Blake ran ahead home and the aunts had to call to Gen to stop following him and wait for them. I guess she stopped when told to, but started running again when Blake did. At least they take a path through the field so the kids weren't on the gravel road.
Blake made a very little apple pie, cutting up his apples and rolling out a little crust. He didn't like the pie and so Gen ate it with some ice cream.
So, Pete and I had a night to ourselves. We couldn't think what to do. There weren't any movies we wanted to see. We ended up going to Mongo's Grill for supper. It is a family friendly restaurant, but this way we didn't need to take turns sitting at the table with Gen while the other person went to get food. I had a wonderful mix of fish, veggies, black beans, citrus sauces and brown rice. Pete did a "Pete" and tried to mix too many flavors together. Who knew chicken, ham, noodles, rice, cheese, broccoli, carrots, corn, pineapple and three different sauces don't really work together?
Gen got home about 5ish and we dunked her in the bath. Pete and I sat in the bathroom watching her play, just enjoying her. Everything is right in the world tonight.
