I am currently at the table with Gen while she colors. Once in a while she hands me a color, lets me work for a few seconds, checks my work and takes the color back. Quality control is a tough job. She makes me smile.
We had Rachel and her two girls, Caroline and Elizabeth, over for a play date. When they were leaving, Gen wanted to put on her coat too, so we headed to the library to quickly pick up some books that had come in for me. We also checked out an Elmo's World tape as Gen loves him.
Gen did really nicely at the library for a change. She played for a few minutes with the library's kitchen toys and then calmly waited with me while our items were scanned. She carried her video out the door and all the way home. Part of the video was about birthdays and included a part about cakes. She kept saying "cake" and pointing at her booster seat. I really appreciated her calmness as I helped her to understand we don't have cake.
We are planning on having an Elmo themed birthday party for Gen this year. Aunt Cathy is making two birthday cakes for Gen. We are going to have lunch with my family on the Saturday after Gen's birthday. We will then bring the other cake to Pete's parents on Sunday, Mother's Day, and celebrate there too. With such a small place and Mommy's guest anxiety, it is difficult to have everyone together. It gives me a headache. It was good to have Rachel and her girls here today. It wasn't planned far in advance, so I tried to relax about cleaning and just enjoy the fact that friends were coming to visit. Thankfully all went well.
